Website Design Analysis

Build in Amsterdam

This website is by a group from the Netherlands that create vibrant, photography-based designs, and have received multiple rewards for their work. Their sites have a strong social motivation, due to the large photographs of people as opposed to artwork, or background imagery. This creates a very relatable feeling, as though this site was made for you. The “Build in Amsterdam” site itself also contains a lot of photography, as well information about who they are, what their motives are and what they enjoy doing in their profession. It is a great design that profiles their ingenuity very nicely.
The communication style of the “Build in Amsterdam” site was mainly informative. They aimed to provide a sense of what the company is about, based on various pictures and text both about work and themselves personally. The “About” tab helps give the viewer a better understanding of the passion the company has and the dedication their willing to provide clients.
The design for this website is very clean and easily legible, with great functionality. They used soft opaque colours, no gradients, and simple black text, to make it sharp and clearly navigable. The scroll function makes it straightforward to cycle through different jobs and information. The change of colour to go along with each job also helps distinguish where you are on the site. The “About” page is the same format and allows you to cycle through their motives and talents. Lastly, the “Contact” tab is a simple black drop down from the top and doesn’t take you off of the current job or information slide your on. It provides all the necessary information efficiently and even has links and a clickable contact email. Meanwhile if you click anywhere else on the site it will slide back up and you’re free to roam the site where you left off.
To criticize one piece of the “Build in Amsterdam” website I would have provided more text in each “About” Slide. It’s well designed, but not necessarily the most efficient way of trying to get who you are across. It takes a little while for each scroll animation and it’s time consuming to get to the end of the slides. I would suggest putting more text on each slide and shorten the amount of scrolling the viewer has to do.
